Keep the main thing, the main thing

My dad used to tell me this growing up...

As my dad used to tell me, "Brett remember to keep the main thing the main thing".

Wise words.

For today's conversation, here's the "main thing":

>> Repeated actions compound in impact across time <<

Take inventory of the daily, repeated actions.

What is 1 action that you need to stop?

Or vice versa.

What is 1 action that you need to start?

Don't make the mistake of trying to solve EVERYTHING ALL AT ONCE, just pick one.

Then, later, pick another.

Give it time.

Iterate the moves.

Trust the process.

You'll be amazed at what you'll see a year from now if you do.

One of the highest-leverage frameworks I’ve found for my business life:

MUST // SHOULD // COULD

Let me explain:

MUST — these are 1-3 items that absolutely have to be done today.

DO NOT add items to this list that are not going to get completed.

The goal is to build integrity — these musts are a promise to yourself.

Don’t let Yourself down here.

Build the habit of following through.

SHOULD — these are the next 3-5 tasks that are immediately following the MUSTS.

With these, you need to think about the highest-leverage moves that are not immediately urgent, but important.

COULD — This list can be long.

It’s a running list of all the line-items that you want to make sure stay top-of-mind.

Keep building momentum.

That’s the ticket with this system.

If you do that, growth begins to be the DEFAULT instead of the exception.

Best,

Brett
